An ESS (Energy Storage System) is the complete package of battery, inverter and control electronics that stores electrical energy and delivers it on demand, covering everything from a small home backup unit to a grid-scale containerized installation.
Why it matters for home backup power
When the grid goes down, an ESS is what bridges the gap between the outage and the return of power. Its value over a bare battery is integration: the inverter converts stored DC to household AC, the BMS monitors and protects the cells in real time, and the controller coordinates the battery with any solar panels and with the grid. Together these layers mean the system switches automatically, communicates its real-time state of charge, and enforces safe operating limits without manual intervention.(Source: IEC 62619)
ESS in practice
Key numbers
Genixgreen home ESS units are built on LiFePO4 cells running at a nominal 51.2 V and rated for 6000+ cycles, scaling in parallel from about 5 kWh to 16 kWh for residential sites and into the MWh range for commercial deployments. For energy planning, usable output is about 85 percent of nameplate capacity, reflecting a depth of discharge of 80 to 95 percent combined with one-way discharge and inverter efficiency of 90 to 95 percent.(Source: Battery University BU-808)
Backup duration is always load-dependent: the same 10 kWh ESS covers a very different window powering 300 W of lighting and a router than it does powering a 1.5 kW combination of appliances.
ESS vs a standalone battery
A standalone battery module stores energy but cannot connect to a grid, respond to solar generation, or protect itself without additional components. An ESS bundles those functions: the inverter stage converts DC to AC (or manages DC loads directly), the BMS enforces charge and discharge limits, and the controller arbitrates between generation, storage and consumption as conditions change. Buying an integrated ESS rather than assembling separate components reduces integration risk, simplifies installation and consolidates support under one manufacturer.
How Genixgreen uses ESS
Genixgreen has built LiFePO4 storage in its own factory since 2011 and ships to 100+ countries, with local stock in Odesa for delivery across Ukraine. Every system in the Genixgreen range, from compact wall-mount home units to multi-rack commercial installations, is an integrated ESS: battery, inverter and BMS are engineered and tested together, communicating over a closed-loop protocol so each layer responds to the others in real time.
