LiFePO4

LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate, also written LFP) is a lithium battery chemistry valued for its safety, long cycle life, and stable performance. It is the standard chemistry for home and commercial energy storage where reliability matters more than maximum energy density. (Source: Battery University BU-205)

Why it matters for home backup power

For a home riding out a blackout, the battery has to be safe indoors and last for years of daily charging. LiFePO4 operates at lower thermal risk than other lithium chemistries and holds up over thousands of charge-and-discharge cycles, which is why it is the chemistry behind most modern home storage systems.

One cold-weather fact is critical in climates with freezing winters: a standard LiFePO4 battery must NOT be charged below 0 C without BMS self-heating. It can discharge down to about minus 20 C with reduced capacity, so it will keep a home running on a freezing night; only charging has to wait until the cells are above 0 C. LiFePO4 also produces no hydrogen or toxic fumes in normal operation, which makes it safe for heated indoor spaces. (Source: IEC 62619)

LiFePO4 in practice

Key numbers

Genixgreen LiFePO4 systems run at a nominal 51.2 V and are rated for 6000+ cycles, scaling in parallel from about 5 kWh to 16 kWh for homes and into the MWh range for commercial sites. For energy planning, expect about 85 percent of nameplate as usable energy: depth of discharge runs 80 to 95 percent, combined with one-way discharge and inverter efficiency of 90 to 95 percent. Cycle life is rated to the 80 percent capacity end-of-life point. (Source: Battery University BU-808)

LiFePO4 vs other chemistries

Compared with lead-acid, LiFePO4 stores more energy in less space, accepts deeper discharge, and lasts far longer. Compared with higher-density lithium chemistries, it trades a small amount of energy density for a stronger safety and longevity profile; that trade suits the daily cycling a residential or commercial backup system demands.

How Genixgreen uses LiFePO4

Genixgreen has built LiFePO4 storage in its own factory since 2011 and ships to 100+ countries, with local stock in Odesa for delivery across Ukraine. Every home and commercial battery in the range, from wall-mounted units to containerized systems, uses LiFePO4 cells with an integrated BMS for real-time safety monitoring and state management.
